welcome to the sept. dept.Small business marketing support that makes showing up online feel lighter.
You can think of this as a come-and-go corner of the studio. Commission smaller design and copywriting projects, make updates to your website, or build the tools you need to launch and share something new.
SEPTEMBER'S THE MOOD AND WE'rE leaning into ITs BACK-TO-BUSINESS SIDEBecause sometimes you just need one small project, done well and other times you need a full creative partner in your corner.
creative operations supportIt’s a coordinated effort.
Named for that fresh-notebook feeling of returning to your work in the fall, the Sept. Dept. is where you can finally get projects of all sizes off your to-do list and out into the world.
The Dept. built to help you tackle your marketing projects from start to finish, with strong writing, good design, and the same thoughtfulness you’ll find in every And Nine project.

“I’ve asked Jenny for so many small projects and they’ve all been great. Love the flexibility to reach out when I need and I like knowing exactly who I’ll be working with.”

You can choose the kind of support you need.
Start with one project, coordinate several projects together, or set up on-going support where we work together over a set-time period like a busy season or new service launch.
Single Project

On-Going Support
Recurring creative and marketing help from someone who already knows the ins-and-outs of your business and can help you keep the momentum going.
P.S. Not sure which format fits? Share what you’re working on, and I’ll recommend some options.

why I created the dept.Small businesses need more than one kind of help.
After we finished their website and branding, I noticed that most of my clients still wanted a reliable creative partner they could call on.
There might be a new page to add a few months later, a newsletter to write, or another template they needed me to design for a different platform.
I wanted And Nine to be a place you could come back to (or even start small with). So the Sept. Dept. became the place where new and returning clients could commission those smaller, but still important, projects as they needed them.
from idea to finished project
Your custom project follows a familiar flow:
start here
Share what you’re working on.
You don’t need to arrive with a polished brief or know exactly which service to request. Use the inquiry form to share what you want to create, improve, or get off your list, along with any relevant links, drafts, and timing considerations.
fAQ'S about THE DEPARTMENT“How can I get started?” and a few other practical questions you might have:
-
Everyone’s welcome here. There’s a handful of projects that only work well if we’ve worked together on your website beforehand (things like website maintenance) but if you’re curious, please reach out and I’m happy to learn more about what you have in mind.
-
Possibly! I’m happy to review existing Squarespace, Wix, and Showit websites to see whether your updates can be completed as a smaller Sept. Dept. project.
This might include adding a new page, updating your services or team descriptions, expanding a shop or portfolio, or improving a particular part of the site. If your website needs broader changes to its structure, writing, visual direction, or functionality, I may recommend approaching it as a Conversation Website or custom Destination Website instead.
In your inquiry, you can share your current site and what you’d like to improve, and we can talk through your options together.
-
Planning at least a month ahead is usually helpful for a Sept. Dept. project, but since these projects do tend to have a shorter turnaround, I am sometimes able to accommodate a last-minute request. Reach out and I’m happy to chat.
-
Usually, yes! If you’re planning a custom Destination Website, related needs like sales pages, content collections, shops, or other additions can be included in your overall project proposal.
Since Brand Direction and the Conversation Website follow a specific timeline with set items you receive in that window of time, if you want to add something custom, like brand patterns, social templates, blog articles, or case studies in your portfolio, we can plan the projects back-to-back. You’ll get a seperate custom proposal for timeline and investment of your add-on project.
You can also return to the Sept. Dept. anytime after your brand or website launches. If you already know you’ll need additional support, mention it when you inquire and I’ll recommend the simplest way to bring everything together.

launch page
Soft-launching a new yoga and pilates studio.
VM yoga and pilates needed a place to connect with new students while the full website was still taking shape. I organized their must-have opening information into a streamlined launch page that introduced the studio, shared its class styles and opening schedule, and invited new students to peek behind the scenes as they opened their doors.
blog articles
Organizing an artist's journal to showcase upcoming collections.
Katie had years of creative knowledge to share but needed help shaping it into organized content that showcased her point-of-view as a surface pattern designer. We are building a growing studio journal around topics that can help her connect with other creatives, support her website's seo strategy, and give her audience more ways to naturally discover her work.
Product Descriptions
Drafting product descriptions rooted in organic storytelling.
The Simply Crafty Shop needed product descriptions for their collection of air plants and hand-made gifts that could communicate all the care and time they'd invested in creating each product by hand. I wrote customer-friendly descriptions that highlighted the boutique, artisan quality of each item, bringing out the storytelling behind how each one was made.
Reusable Marketing Templates
Making it easier to share new work without redesigning every post.
A coordinated set of templates gave the business a flexible visual system for sharing announcements, offers, and ongoing content. Each piece was designed to feel consistent with the brand while remaining simple to update and reuse.
